cockroach test

This week in science we did an experiment with cockroaches. We were allowed to design our own experiment which was a little challenging. My group wanted to see what surfaces the cockroaches liked. When we were planning the test, we did not consider every variable. This is what I learned about designing experiments. You must consider all variables. In our test the cockroach would go where it could get shade which we forgot about. We also did not have the same amount of space for each surface. Next time I design an experiment I will make sure I consider every variable before I start gathering materials.

Camp Spears

1. I learned that in a bog, things will stay preserved because the sunlight cant get to the water so there is no oxygen in it.

2. I learned that there is a magnetic pull on the north pole which makes a compass face north.

3. I learned that salamanders live in streams near lakes.

4. I learned that birch keeps mosquitoes away when burt because of a chemical in the wood.

5.I learned liken is etable.

This week in science we made observations on cockroaches. An observation is something that you notice using all of your senses except for taste. (when working in a lab) Many people were very uneasy around the cockroaches and they could tell. Our class made great observations. We all noticed that there were small tanish colored bugs crawling on the cockroaches. I think that they could be baby cockroaches. I think this because they are generally the same shape of the grown cockroaches. Also, many of the roaches have missing antenii. This could be due to fighting over a mate which is common. We also made detailed drawings of them. A few seemed to be dying so they were easy to draw. They could be diseased or very old.
