This week we got the results for the moon rock. The sample strands matched with Marc
Giacalones strands. That did not mean the he was the one who stole it. We also read about Cell processes. We learned about cell respiration, protien synthesis, DNA replication, and cellular reproduction. Also, we laerned a little about photosynthesis and how too much glucose will cause the plant to produce startch and the plant will grow.

This week we made DNA samples of the suspects for the AP students to read. They will read the samples, find a match, and return the results. We used pinapple juice and another liquid to make two layers with a thin level of DNA in the middle. The suspects swabed their cheeks to collect DNA. The problem is, the hair might not be the criminals. Also, DNA testing is not always accurate. Im interested to see the results.

This week in science we learned all the functions of all the cell parts. We also learned what cell are made of. We talked about the chain that starts with atoms. We learned about the carbon ring made from simple sugar.We also talked about DNA. DNA stands for dioxyribose nucleic acid. The weak bond between the nitrogen pair allows for easier replication of DNA to occer. We also talked about the jobs of DNA. Its almost like an instruction manuel for the cell and you need to open it up to read it. Thats the phosphates job. It looks like a twisted ladder and the "back bone" is made from sugar strands. The nitrogen pairs are the little strands between the main back bone.

This week in science we worked on labeling and identifying parts of plant cells, animal cells, and prokaryotic bacteria. We looked at the tools that the bacteria had for transportation. It uses cillia and its flagella. The cillia is a little like wavey hair all around the outside. The flagella is like a long tail. We also did a thurough labeling of both plant and animal cell. I learned that ribosomes make the rough E.R. rough by grinding away at it. I'm looking forward to learninig more about these parts.
